Detailed Description
This printable ESL lesson plan for intermediate students B2-C1 focuses on financial phrasal verbs, particularly those related to money and spending.
On the Preparatory Worksheet, students are first introduced to the ten phrasal verbs via context. They must choose the correct definition from three definitions after seeing each phrasal verb in a sentence. After this, they consolidate their knowledge with a gap-fill exercise.
The Main Worksheet starts with a group brainstorming session about words linked to the verb ‘spend’.
The ‘Vocabulary Game’ is a great chance for everyone to have a laugh while revising the phrasal verbs they have learnt. The students will be naming things related to the phrasal verbs. It’s a fast-paced, fun game to put the new language into real-life situations.
Next, the class gets creative by creating a quiz together. The questions can be about the phrasal verbs, other financial terms, or even general knowledge like world currencies. This activity also makes for a great homework activity.
Lastly, we have the ‘Speaking’ activity. Students will be completing questions with the correct preposition and then answering them. It’s a great way to practise using the phrasal verbs in a real conversation.
This printable PDF lesson plan is flexible for different session lengths and group sizes. If time is tight, the suggestions to use a flipped classroom approach can help make the most of the lesson time. In longer sessions or larger groups, there’s scope to dive deeper into the vocabulary games or the quiz.
