Detailed Description
This printable ESL lesson plan for B1-C1 intermediate students focuses on English prepositions, reading exercises, and a fascinating theme: forbidden places on Earth.
The class starts with a fun group discussion about “No Entry” signs and off-limit adventures. It then dives into ‘Language Focus I’ with useful vocabulary and grammar points. ‘Language Focus II’ tests students’ understanding of language rules through a multiple-choice exercise.
Reading: The main aspect of this class, the reading activity, introduces five forbidden locations worldwide. There is also a focus on prepositional verbs paired with ‘from’ throughout the text.
Towards the end, there is a group discussion about other restricted areas students know. They practise the prepositional verbs they have learnt during the reading. To wrap up, an optional online research task invites students to find information about an interesting place, promoting critical thinking and research skills.
This PDF lesson plan is adaptable for different session lengths and group sizes. For shorter classes, students can do the reading activity independently. In longer sessions or larger groups, students can delve deeper into the vocabulary or the research task. For a flipped classroom approach, students can complete the reading and ‘Language Focus’ activities at home, leaving the speaking activity for the in-class session.
