Detailed Description
This B2-C1 ESL worksheet and presentation talks about job automation.
Students start by giving their opinion on a few questions, and then watch a TED talk to offer them a deeper insight into the topic.
They then learn two structures for expressing degrees of probability / likelihood, which goes on to a controlled practice activity where they’ll put the structures into use.
In the screen-share version, there is then a short text about how past revolutions have changed what jobs are carried out by humans, and how new jobs do appear.
The teacher may read this from the Teacher’s Insights for students as a ‘listening’ activity on the printable version if they wish. Following this, everyone gives their opinion on certain points of job automation and whether they are advantages or disadvantages.
This class will go much more smoothly if students are able to watch the video. If you cannot show it in class, ask them to watch it at home before the class as a pre-class activity (blended learning / flipped classroom).
